Let’s start with a concept that might be new to many of you: brain frequencies. As I’ve traveled the world sharing this information, I’ve noticed that not many people are aware of brain frequencies and the incredible impact they can have on our lives. So, let’s break it down together.

Our brains are constantly emitting electrical pulses, measured in cycles per second. These pulses fall into four main categories, which I like to remember using the acronym “Bat D” (not Batman, though that would be cool too!). Let’s explore each of these brain wave states:

  1. Beta (14-20 cycles per second): This is where we spend most of our waking hours. It’s the state of being wide awake, alert, and focused. When you’re analyzing data, giving a presentation, playing sports, or taking an exam, you’re in beta. It’s great for concentration, but not always ideal for creativity or relaxation.
  2. Alpha (7-14 cycles per second): As we start to slow down, we enter alpha. This is where the magic happens! Alpha is the state of relaxed awareness, visualization, and creativity. It’s where our best ideas come from. Ever had a “eureka” moment in the shower or while taking a walk? That’s alpha at work!
  3. Theta (4-7 cycles per second): Theta is associated with deep meditation and intuition. It’s where our memories are stored and where we can access our subconscious mind. When you have those profound, intuitive flashes, they’re often coming from theta.
  4. Delta (0-4 cycles per second): This is the state of deep sleep and healing. It’s where our body releases human growth hormone and repairs itself. Those strange, disconnected dreams? They’re happening in delta.

The Subconscious Mind: Your Hidden Powerhouse

Now, you might be wondering, “Why should I care about these brain waves?” Well, here’s the kicker: understanding and controlling our brain waves can help us tap into the incredible power of our subconscious mind.

Think of your mind as an iceberg. The conscious mind is the tip above the water – logical, rational, and always processing information. But beneath the surface lies the vast subconscious mind – emotional, intuitive, and incredibly powerful.

The subconscious mind is where all our experiences, memories, and beliefs are stored. It’s the source of our habits, our intuition, and our deepest motivations. And here’s the exciting part: by learning to access and communicate with our subconscious mind, we can make profound changes in our lives and achieve our goals more easily.

Harnessing Alpha for Goal Setting

So, how can we use this knowledge to set and achieve our goals? The key lies in the alpha state. When we’re in alpha, we have a unique opportunity to communicate with our subconscious mind and plant the seeds of our desires.

Here’s my first big tip for you: When you’re setting goals, make sure you’re in alpha, not beta. How? By changing your environment. Get out of your usual spaces – your home, your office – and go somewhere that inspires you. For me, it’s a beautiful natural setting. The change in environment naturally shifts your brain waves, helping you relax into alpha.

In alpha, you can visualize your desired outcomes more vividly. You can tap into your creativity and imagine possibilities you might not see in your day-to-day beta state. It’s like opening a gateway to the deeper aspects of your mind.

Speaking the Language of the Subconscious

Now, here’s something fascinating about the subconscious mind: it thinks in pictures and emotions, not words. That’s why visualization is so powerful. Let me give you an example:

Imagine a piece of sandpaper. Fold it in half, so you have sandpaper on both sides. Now, bring it up to your mouth and bite down gently. Did you feel a shiver run down your spine? That’s your subconscious mind reacting to the image as if it were real!

We can use this principle to our advantage when setting goals. Instead of just writing down your goals, create vivid mental images of what you want to achieve. Feel the emotions associated with reaching your goals. The more real you can make it in your mind, the more your subconscious will work to make it a reality.

One practical way to do this is by creating a vision board. Cut out pictures that represent your goals and aspirations, and arrange them on a board. Place it somewhere you’ll see it often. This constant visual reminder speaks directly to your subconscious, reinforcing your desires and motivating you to take action.

The Power of Relaxation

Here’s a little story that illustrates the importance of relaxation in achieving our goals. A while back, I was in New York, walking through a bank with a colleague. We passed an open office door and saw something unusual: an executive leaning back in his chair, feet up on the desk, gazing out at the Manhattan skyline.

Surprised, I asked my colleague if that was allowed. His response? “The last time he had an idea in that position, he saved the company $50 million. So yeah, it’s allowed.”

This story highlights a crucial point: when we’re relaxed, we have better quality thoughts. That executive, by allowing himself to slip into a more relaxed state (likely alpha), was able to access creative solutions that might not have come to him in a more stressed, beta state.

So, don’t feel guilty about taking time to relax and daydream. It’s not just enjoyable – it’s productive!

Your Daily Windows of Opportunity

Now, here’s some really exciting news: there are two times every day when we naturally pass through the alpha state. Can you guess when?

That’s right – as we’re falling asleep and as we’re waking up. These are golden opportunities to communicate with our subconscious mind.

Let’s focus on your bedtime routine. Those last 7 minutes before you drift off to sleep are incredibly powerful. I call this time “mental flossing” – it’s when we can clear out the mental plaque that’s built up during the day and replace it with positive, goal-oriented thoughts.

Here’s what I recommend:

  1. Keep your vision board near your bed.
  2. As you’re settling down to sleep, look at your vision board and focus on one of your goals.
  3. Imagine how you’ll feel when you’ve achieved that goal. Really let yourself experience the emotions.
  4. Turn your goal into a positive affirmation. For example, if your goal is to lose weight, your affirmation might be, “I am fit, healthy, and full of energy.”
  5. Repeat your affirmation as you drift off to sleep.

By doing this, you’re programming your subconscious mind to work on your goals even while you sleep. It’s like having a powerful ally working for you 24/7!
