Ho’oponopono Breathing for Stress and Anxiety

Ho’oponopono Breathing for Stress and Anxiety

Life can be stressful. Unresolved negative emotions, limiting beliefs, and painful memories weigh us down. But an ancient Hawaiian technique called Ho’oponopono provides a powerful solution for profound healing and peace.

Ho’oponopono means “to make right” or “to correct an error” in Hawaiian. It is based on taking 100% responsibility for everything experienced in your life, instead of blaming others.

By sincerely accepting accountability and clearing your errors within, Ho’oponopono can transform relationships, health, finances and more.

The Healing Power of the Breath

Rhythmic breathing is calming and therapeutic. It activates the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing anxiety, depression and stress.

Ho’oponopono traditionally incorporates breathing as a way to focus, center yourself, and connect with inner divinity before reciting the mantras.

Here is a simple 7-count breathing practice to try:

  1. Inhale for the count of 7
  2. Hold your breath for the count of 7
  3. Exhale for the count of 7
  4. Hold empty for the count of 7
  5. Repeat 7 times total

Sit upright with eyes closed. Place one hand on your heart and one on your belly. Breathe slowly and deeply from your abdomen. Focus on your counts, visualizing divine light filling your body on the inhale.

Feel tension and negativity release on the exhale. After a few minutes, you’ll feel centered, open and receptive.

Ho’oponopono Mantras and Process

After the breathing, move into the 4 phrases of Ho’oponopono:

  1. I love you
  2. I’m sorry
  3. Please forgive me
  4. Thank you

As problems or people come to mind, silently repeat the mantras with sincerity. Imagine bathing them in your light. Taking responsibility, ask divinity to correct errors and release negativity from your shared past.

For example, if thinking of a stressful co-worker, mentally repeat phrases like:

“I love you [name]. I’m sorry for my harshness. Please forgive me for judging you. Thank you for teaching me patience.”

The process works by reconnecting you to inner wisdom that heals the origins of outer issues. Stay centered in your heart, allowing compassion to arise and old pains to dissipate.
